Rejuran: 5 Things to Know Before Your First Treatment

Dr. Designer Clinic Yeongdeungpo · Updated 2026-09 · Korean original ↗

"How is Rejuran different from a hydrating skin booster?" "Is it really made from salmon?" With so many skin boosters on the market, confusion is normal. Here is what Rejuran is, how it compares, what the evidence says, and who we advise to wait.

1. What Rejuran is

Rejuran injects polynucleotides (PN) extracted from salmon DNA into the skin. PN is known to support the skin's own repair environment, so unlike a hyaluronic acid "glow" injection that adds water, Rejuran is classed as a treatment that strengthens the skin's recovery capacity.

It is used mainly for thin, weakened skin: fine lines, rough texture, enlarged pores and the general loss of resilience that comes with age or sun damage. There is also a dedicated formula for the thin skin around the eyes.

The question is not which is superior but whether your skin lacks water or has a weakened foundation. Show us your skin at consultation and we will tell you which applies.

3. How strong is the evidence

PN and PDRN have been studied for years in wound healing and skin regeneration, and Rejuran is approved by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Reported side effects in studies are local: temporary bumps at injection points, redness and occasional bruising, usually resolving within days. Results still depend on skin condition and how the treatment is planned, and we explain the limits of the evidence as they are.

4. What to expect: results, sessions, downtime

  • Sessions: a course of 3, spaced 2–4 weeks apart, then maintenance every 6–12 months.
  • Results: texture and fine lines improve gradually over the course; most patients notice it from the second session.
  • Downtime: small raised bumps at the injection points for 1–3 days (up to 5 days with Rejuran Healer), mild redness, possible small bruises.
  • Session time: about 30–40 minutes including numbing cream.

5. Who we do not recommend it for

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding patients.
  • Known fish allergy, because the PN is salmon-derived.
  • Active infection, severe inflammatory acne or eczema in the treatment area.
  • Patients on blood thinners bruise more easily; do not stop them on your own, and talk to the doctor in advance.

On the day

  • Come without makeup if you can; we cleanse and apply numbing cream for 20–30 minutes.
  • Avoid alcohol the night before to reduce bruising.
  • Plan no important events for 2–3 days because of the bumps.

Frequently asked questions

Rejuran or a hydrating booster, which one?
Dry, dull skin points to hyaluronic acid. Thin skin, fine lines and slow recovery point to Rejuran. Many patients alternate the two.
Does it hurt?
Rejuran Healer is thicker and stings more; HB Plus contains lidocaine and many patients find it more comfortable. Numbing cream is applied, and sensitivity varies.
How many sessions?
Three sessions 2–4 weeks apart as a first course, then maintenance.
Can I go back to normal life straight away?
Yes, but expect visible bumps for 1–3 days. No sauna, heavy exercise or alcohol for 24 hours.
Can it be used around the eyes?
Yes, with Rejuran I, a formula with viscosity adjusted for the eye area. See our guide to the four Rejuran types.
